Should we pull children from play for small group instruction?

Updated: May 14

"In order to maximize the benefits of free, child-led play time, children should not be pulled from their play time for a teacher-conducted small group activity. It is counterproductive... It does not make sense to remove children from play for an activity we, the stakeholders, or the predetermined curriculum deems important... This is a prime example of adults interrupting children's learning by trying to teach." ~Stacy Benge, The Whole Child Alphabet (Exchange Press)
